Windows Explorer (not IE) hangs often.running programs keep running.but Taskbar stops, folder don

I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 on my Compaq Presario V3070TU laptop.Folders do not open, neither does any media file.Taskbar stops.Once this happens, then I have to open task manager(Ctrl+Alt+Del works),kill the 'Explorer' process(End Task) and then open a new Task from 'Applications' tab. This would bring back all icons and taskbar back to working. This reoccurs again after a while.Have run Norton Anti virus with latest virus defnitions,McAfee with all latest updates,Spyware doctor with latest update etc. These had cumulatively fixed all possible issues.Did registry cleaning and error correction using Regcure and some other utilties, performed some tune up using Tuneup utillties 2007.But problem still persists.

Buy new RAM of 512MB (for XP)

It will enhance working of your pc.
Stop using IE and switch to Firefox browser.
How much memory (RAM) do you have on your computer. I honestly wouldn't run anything less than a gig now but 512 is suitable and workable. How full is your hard drive, meaning how much disk space is available. Have you defragged the hard drive? If all this has been done, I'm gonna go with software being the cause and I'd try running a repair from the original installation disk. Only a repair, do not reinstall the O.S.. A repair will only replace system files, and leave your other applications alone.
