yes they should and thier executives put in jial for conspiracy to extort the public, they cry about development but have made record profits and exxon still has yet to pay for the exxon valdez in alaska damage!

no way, they just put it back into the system naturally anyway so why take it from them

This is a matter of opinion, not fact, on either side of the argument.



For me, I don't believe so. Did we cut the tax rates on these companies when their profit margins were drying up a decade ago? And why single out oil companies? We already prevent them from seeking new profits (drilling and building refineries). The proposal sounds too punitive to me. If you want to punish someone for oil and gas prices the correct target would be OPEC. As long as we rely on foreign oil instead of either alternative fuels or domestic oil then we can't really complain.
Using the word "penalized" is loaded.



The oil companies did nothing to earn their outrageous profits. It didn't cost them any more. Circumstances just put it in their laps. We need the money, so windfall 'em!
